The India China Institute (ICI) is currently looking for New School graduate and undergraduate students for paid, part-time positions for the Fall 2014 semester. Positions available are:

  • Events Coordinator
  • Research Associate
  • Web Design and Social Media

Events Coordinator Position

The Events Coordinator will assist in tasks relating to research projects within the institute, as well as with internal administrative needs. This position requires good educational standing; excellent writing and communication skills; close attention to details; ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently as well as effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Previous experience organizing and coordinating public events is desirable. Previous work experience within The New School is plus.

Student will assist in coordination of events such as conferences, symposia, public lectures and film screenings. Duties may include creation of promotional materials and communication with university and external populations, maintenance of events’ calendar and website, coordination of speakers, development and maintenance of databases/mailing lists, outreach to outside vendors and companies on behalf of the ICI, liaising with university offices such as Career Services, Audio-Visual, and Catering, and scheduling rooms for events.

 

Research Associate Position

The Research Associate will assist in tasks relating to research projects within the institute, as well as with internal administrative needs. This position requires good educational standing; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently as well as effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with professors, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders. The ideal candidate will also have advanced skills in Excel and be attentive to university policies & procedures.

Preference will be given to students who are:

  • Creative
  • Detail-oriented
  • Organized
  • Able to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment Interested in India and/or China
  • Federal Work Study students are strongly encouraged to apply

Web Design and Social Media Associate Position

ICI is looking for a highly motivated individual to fill a part-time position to maintain India China Institute’s website and social media pages. Must be a self- starter who has the ability to work independently, but can collaborate with multiple team members as needed. Should be open to the office tasks of the ICI.

This position will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of India China Institute website (WordPress based) and social media pages, primarily uploading content.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Knowledge of WordPress.
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS and Php
• Experience with cross browser markup HTML and CSS.
• Knowledge of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter
• Keen eye for detail and organization
• Ability to multitask and communicate effectively with team members. • Resourceful and positive attitude with excellent communication skills • Other Web Application and Programming skills/capabilities a plus.
