Over the past half-century, there has been little opportunity for Indian and Chinese scholars to reach across disciplines and borders to study relations between these two countries. Since our founding in 2004, ICI has supported thirty-seven scholars and professionals, as well as more than twenty students, with its signature India China Institute Fellowship Program.

The India China Fellowship Program provides scholars and experts from the U.S., India, and China with the academic, financial, and professional support needed to focus on trilateral exchange. In essence, ICI creates an academic space for these fellows to work together across borders, contributing to its edited volumes and social web platforms, and participating in round-table discussions and conferences around the world.

Additionally, India China Institute offers a number of Student Opportunities for students at the New School and from around the world.

India China Knowledge and Capacity Building Initiative (ICKCBI) gives students from The New School, University of Calcutta, and Yunnan University an opportunity to spend one month in China and one month in India while working together on research projects of various nature.

For those interested in individual research, ICI offers a Summer Travel Research Grant, an opportunity for four bright students to travel to India or China and conduct research on a topic of their choosing.

ICI also partners with The American Institute of Indian Studies, where students have the opportunity to apply for language instruction in many Indian languages, as well as for fellowships to cover the costs of the program. Information about the program is available here.
