The India China Institute (ICI) at The New School announces new faculty research grants designed to support faculty research and teaching related to India and China.
The Faculty Research and Curriculum Development Grants will support new or continuing research, curriculum development and student engagement on India and China by faculty in any division of The New School. Six Faculty Research Awards (up to $10,000 each) and one of up to $15,000 for the express purpose of curriculum development and student engagement will be distributed, and grant recipients will have 24 months to carry out the proposed activities of the grant. Grant recipients are requested to give a presentation upon completion of the initiative, the form of which may be mutually determined at the time of funding.
Research
ICI invites individual or collaborative faculty grant proposals that further ongoing research projects or develop new areas of academic inquiry. No prior teaching or research experience in India or China is required to apply, and we welcome new initiatives. Priority will be given to proposals that involve comparisons or interactions between India and China, or the joint impact of India and China in the region, or outside of Asia. Please refer to our Initiatives page for information on current projects.
Curriculum Development and Student Engagement
In light of the growing numbers of students The New School welcomes each year from China and India, ICI recognizes the need to strengthen curriculum relevant to those regions, as well as to address the diverse experiences of international students at The New School. This grant, up to $15,000, is intended to help meet the challenges and opportunities of our increasingly global student body.
We welcome proposals that include cross-divisional collaborations to develop interdisciplinary courses or those that reconsider and strengthen ongoing curriculum by incorporating modules focused on India and China. Proposals may be initiated by faculty or administration, but in every case must indicate support from department chairs. We request that proposals include plans for how the courses or initiatives will be sustained beyond the period of the grant.
Eligibility
All part-time and full-time faculty are eligible to apply. Up to six grants ($10,000 each) will be awarded to advance on-going research or to initiate new research related to India or/and China and one grant (up to $15,000) will be awarded to facilitate curriculum development and student engagement. Junior faculty are especially encouraged to apply.
