1stPost – Research topic and preparations
Since the 9thprime minister of India, Rao carried out the market-oriented economy reform in the early 1990s, the Indian economy has gone through a different development path from traditional industrialization with the emerging software, information technology and other service industries as the main source of growth. However, the long-term competitiveness and economic growth of India’s manufacturing sector are less optimistic than the innovative potential of its services sector. While the services-oriented industrial structure has been set since 1990s, how can the manufacturing sector be reformed and integrated into the formal economy will be the key to solving the problems in India’s manufacturing industry. The significance of this research project concerns the problems appears with the slow growth of India’s manufacturing sector within the services-oriented industrial structure since the Rao’s economic reforms in 1991, as India strive to fill the structural gap in manufacturing sector to achieve truly balanced, healthy and rapid growth.
I been working on data collection and analysis from a number of journal articles, academic book and reliable database. But in order to achieve a further understanding of the reality of India manufacturing sector’s reform and the strategic deal aims at this reform, the prime minister Narendra Modi’s deal “Make in India”, I need to be in the place and actually experience its influences to the industry and market.
For the first week of my studies in India, in order to set up a solid foundation for my later research, my goal is to get familiar with the local transportation as soon as possible since I’m planning to visit different economic zone and industrial park to understand better on India’s manufacturing sector’s reform, especially on the prime minister Narendra Modi’s deal, “Make in India”. Field studies like that is always full of nondeterminacy, it’s normal to find out some of your research plan cannot be achieve when you actually be in the place. Thus, to arrange my original plan based on local events and people will be another goal for me.
