Moving Out Living In
October 27, 2010 , 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
India China Institute invites you to join us for a special presentation by Zhang Hai, an adjunct professor at Parson’s, The New School for Design.
The real cases of housing and urban developments in Shenzhen and Shanghai offered opportunities and context to better understand how cities and people in China adapt to rapid urban growth beyond China’s impressive growth figures and statistics. The presentation will consist of a series of award-winning photographs, short films and voices of various parties including the Chinese residents, the government officials, the real estate developers, the designers and the scholars. It is a bottom-up approach to put the people into the forefront of the discussion, and yet with a very close connection with the land-use policies, economic and political measures. More importantly, it is an attempt to evoke a more balanced debate on this highly concerning issue. Moving-Out and Living-in is a part of the research project – NEW DEMAND FOR PEOPLE’S HOUSING IN CHINA – conducted in Shenzhen and Shanghai, China in 2009 and 2010.”
